Lock dates and the year-end transfer

A lock date stops anything dated on or before it being added, changed or deleted, by any part of Accountin. The year-end transfer moves the year's profit and loss balances into retained profit or capital.

Setting a lock date

  1. Open the page

On the Journals tab choose "Year end and lock date".

  2. Enter the date

Enter "Lock up to and including", for example the date of the last VAT return filed or the last approved year end. It cannot be in the future.

  3. Save

Press "Set the lock date". Only an owner can set or move it. To unlock, clear the date and save.

Posting the year-end transfer

  1. Enter the year

Under "Year-end transfer" enter the year start and year end.

  2. Post it

Press "Post the year-end transfer". The profit and loss balances move to 3100 for a company, or the 3000 capital account for a sole trader or partnership.

Reports after the transfer

The profit and loss account and trial balance still show the year's figures, because they leave the transfer out. Tick "After the year-end transfer" on the trial balance to include it.
