Adding bank accounts and importing statements

Each client can have bank accounts, cash accounts and credit cards. Transactions come in from a statement file you download from the bank, or you key them in.

Adding an account

  1. Open Bank

On the client, open the Bank tab. The page is headed "Bank, cash and cards".

  2. Fill in "Add an account"

Choose Bank account, Cash or Credit card, give it a name, and add the bank, sort code and account number if you want them on record. Leave the code blank to use the next free one.

  3. Save

    Press "Add the account".

Importing a statement

  1. Download the statement

From the bank's online banking, download the statement as CSV, OFX, QFX or QIF. Santander's text download is also read.

  2. Upload it

Open the account and use "Import a statement". Files can be up to 5 MB.

  3. Code the lines

The new lines appear under "Waiting to be coded". See coding bank transactions.

Files Accountin reads

  • CSV files from UK banks, including Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, NatWest, Santander, Starling, Monzo and Tide. Columns are found from their headings, and a file without headings, such as HSBC's, is read from the shape of the data.
  • OFX, QFX and QIF files from any bank.
  • Dates are read the UK way round unless the file shows otherwise, and amounts with £ signs, brackets, minus signs or CR and DR are understood.
  • Lines already imported are skipped, so an overlapping statement is safe to import.
  • If the file has a running balance, the last one is kept as the statement balance for the reconciliation.
