Online accounting software for small practices
Client books, VAT returns, income tax quarterly updates and year-end accounts, for practices and bookkeepers coming from VT, BTCSoftware and other desktop packages. Accountin prepares the returns and accounts, and files them with HMRC and Companies House once its filing approvals are in place.
£175 a year for the first user, plus VAT, with unlimited clients. Practices on the waiting list keep that price for as long as they stay.

Which package are you using now?
Accountin sets up your clients from the package you use today.
VT Transaction+ or VT Accounts Suite
Your VT clients in a browser, with their trial balances, customers and suppliers brought across.
Moving from VT →BTCSoftware or Taxfiler
BTCSoftware stops tax returns after 2025/26 and accounts for periods ending after 31 March 2027. IRIS stopped supporting Taxfiler in March 2025.
Moving from BTCSoftware →Another desktop package or spreadsheets
Forbes, SA2000, Andica or your own spreadsheets. If it produces a trial balance, your clients can move.
How the move works →Client books from the bank feed
Bank transactions come in from the bank's statement file, as CSV, OFX, QFX or QIF. Accountin suggests a code and a VAT rate for each one, and you confirm them in a batch.
- Sales and purchase ledgers, with aged debtors and creditors
- Journals, fixed assets, accruals and prepayments
- Several people working on the same client at once

VAT returns and income tax updates
VAT returns are worked out from the books, approved by the client from their phone if you want, and sent to HMRC under Making Tax Digital once HMRC grants Accountin live access. Sole traders and landlords get their quarterly income tax updates and final declaration the same way.
- Standard, cash and flat rate VAT schemes
- Self-employment and UK property income, standard or calendar quarters
- HMRC's reply kept against every submission, once sending is switched on
Year-end accounts, checked before they are filed
Micro-entity accounts under FRS 105 and small company accounts under FRS 102 Section 1A, from the trial balance, with the notes filled in. Accountin checks each set the way a reviewer would.
- The balance sheet balances, this year and last
- The fixed asset notes agree with both balance sheets
- The profit and loss reserve carries from last year to this year

Try the Opportunity Engine
The Opportunity Engine is one of Accountin's advisory extras. It reads each client's figures, lists the advisory work that fits them, such as pension contributions, a fee review or a filing coming due, gives the reason in the client's own numbers and drafts the email to the client. The demo runs in your browser with a fictional practice and its clients.
£175 a year for the first user
One plan with all the accounting work: books, VAT, income tax updates, year-end accounts, CT600, Self Assessment and payroll. Each extra user is £90 a year. Both prices are plus VAT, and you get 30 days free when we open.
The founding offer for practices on the waiting list
- The price stays at £175 a year for the first user and £90 a year for each extra user, plus VAT, for as long as you stay with Accountin.
