What changes in April 2028

  • Every company must file its accounts in iXBRL using commercial software. Companies House's web and paper filing will close for accounts.
  • Small companies and micro-entities must file a profit and loss account, with an option not to have it published on the register. Companies House says how to opt out will be confirmed later.
  • Abridged accounts can no longer be filed.
  • Companies claiming audit exemption must give a stronger statement of eligibility.
  • Every part of the accounts must be filed together.

Questions

Does WebFiling close for everything?

No. Confirmation statements and changes to directors can still be filed on WebFiling.

Does this affect accounts filed before April 2028?

Companies House's campaign site says the changes apply to filings on or after 1 April 2028. Its news release gives 21 months' notice, a full accounting year plus nine months.

What should a practice do now?

Check that the software you use files accounts in iXBRL, and plan for the profit and loss account going to Companies House for small clients from April 2028.
