Questions
Who is it addressed to?
The directors, as a body. ACCA's example title is "Report to the directors on the preparation of the unaudited statutory accounts" of the company.
What does it say?
That the accountant prepared the accounts from the company's records and the information and explanations the directors gave. That the directors are responsible for the records and for the accounts giving a true and fair view, and consider the company exempt from audit. And that the engagement is not an audit or a review, so the accountant gives no opinion on the accounts.
Which guidance applies?
ICAEW's guidance for its members is TECH 07/16 AAF. ACCA's factsheet on audit-exempt companies describes a report wording agreed across the professional bodies through CCAB.
Is it filed at Companies House?
ACCA strongly recommends filing the report with the accounts, including filleted accounts. Accountin puts the report on the members' copy only.
How is it added in Accountin?
See adding the accountants' report. Check the wording against your own professional body's guidance before you sign.
