The income tax cash book and uploading a record sheet

A client's records can come from the ledger, from the income tax cash book, or from a spreadsheet you upload.

Adding cash book entries

  1. Open the cash book

On the Income tax tab choose "Cash book" against the business.

  2. Add an entry

Enter the date, amount, description and HMRC category, and press "Add".

Uploading a spreadsheet

  1. Open the upload

Choose "Upload a spreadsheet" against the business.

  2. Choose the file

Upload an Excel .xlsx or CSV file of up to 4 MB, and press "Upload".

  3. Check what was read

The "Uploaded" table shows how many records were read, or the totals per column.

The two layouts Accountin reads

  • Records: one row per transaction with Date, Description, Amount and Category columns, like the Records sheet in the free record sheet. These go into the cash book.
  • Category totals: category names in the first column and figures beside them, with optional From and To rows for each column's period. To send uploaded totals, set the business's records to come from an uploaded spreadsheet.
  • In a workbook with several sheets, the sheet for the business is picked by its name, such as property or trade.
  • Save the file in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets before uploading so its totals are stored.
