Accountin vs BTCSoftware and BrightTax

Bright is retiring BTCSoftware and moving its customers to BrightTax, its cloud tax and accounts product. A practice leaving BTCSoftware can take that move or set its clients up in another package.

Where BrightTax has more today

The move to BrightTax is included in a BTCSoftware licence, and BrightTax files with HMRC and Companies House today. Trust returns stay in BTCSoftware desktop for at least the 2026/27 tax year.

Moving from BTCSoftware

Export each client's trial balance from BTCSoftware's accounts production, and Accountin sets the client up with opening balances and last year's figures as comparatives. The dates are in BTCSoftware retirement dates.

Accountin's filing status

Accountin is opening to its first practices. Year-end accounts, Companies House filing and the corporation tax return come first. Filing at Companies House switches on once Companies House issues Accountin's own filing credentials, and submission to HMRC switches on once HMRC has recognised Accountin. VAT and Making Tax Digital for Income Tax follow as HMRC approves each one.
